wellthatscool.com is proud be hosting "The Suds of The South Beer Fest" this Saturday March 13th at Little Willies.
In attendance at this event will be the best in craft brewing from the south.
Lazy Magnolia Brewing Co. - Kiln, MS.  | Terrapin Beer Co.  - Athens, GA. - Sweetwater Brewery - Atlanta, GA. - Good People Brewing Co. - Birmingham, AL. | Back Forty Beer Co. - Birmingham AL. | Highland Brewing Co. - Asheville, NC. | Abita - Abita Springs, LA. | Yazoo Brewing Co. - Nashville, TN.
Each brewery will have a table set up with reps to explain what makes the south rival any other beer region in the world! The $10.00 cost will cover unlimited samples, a 3oz sample glass and special discount on Southern Beers at the after party. Musical entertainment will be done by two of Tuscaloosa's finest, Mr. Ham Bagby along with Sir Blaine Duncan.
All proceeds will benefit Free the Hops to help in the fight to continue modernizing Alabama's beer laws! We want everyone to have a good time designated drivers will be let in free of charge and Taxis will be on standby.

   From what started on a one stove burner in a downtown apartment and grew to kitchen of Bo and Becky in an apartment by Taco Bell and now the friendly confines of Egan’s, the Asses of Fire Chili Cook Off has evolved into the greatest event Tuscaloosa holds every winter.
We invite you out for Budweiser and Egan's Present: The Wellthatscool.com 9th annual Asses of Fire Chili Cook Off.

Here is the deal –
This Saturday, March 6 from 4pm-8pm
To enter a chili - $8.00*
*it is highly recommend to bringing your chili in a crock pot, plugs and power strips will be available.
To eat a little of all the chili - $3.00
The money from entry fee and eaters alike goes into a pot.
1st place chili get 70%
2nd place gets 30%
3rd place gets a case of beer.
   The judges will be picked at random with a few celebrity judges thrown in for flavor. No one involved in wellthatscool.com will be a judge and the judging will be blind so no one will be able to play favorites. 
   There will be $2.00 Bud, Bud Light and Bud 55 along with  $3.00 select Great Divide. There will also be music enterimnet and more chili than you can shake a stick at!
Spread the word, the more people wih chili the more you will be able to eat! The more the merrier.

   Egan's is gonna have all Great Divide bottles for $3.00 except the Yeti and Hercules with will be $3.50. All the Drafts will be $1.50 for the 8oz pour.

The Tuscaloosa Free The Hops meeting was held last Thursday at Egans on the Strip. Our own Bo Hicks was in attendance at Egans and gave Mark Hughes Cobb of the Tuscaloosa News the low down on Free The Hops and some beer tasting hints while drinking the great newly freed beer.

We now have high gravity, higher alcohol beers in Alabama - but the work is not done.
People keep asking us - Well now that Free The Hops got us this great beer in Alabama what are they going to do with all the free time they now have.
Free the Hops still needs our help so we can still address container size, blue laws, or many of the other problems that keep us from enjoying to the fullest all the great beers the world has to offer.

   Tuscaloosa is a town steeped in fast-food in chicken tradition. Guthrie's, Willy T's, Chick-fil-A, Zaxby's, KFC, Popeye's, Hooters, Buffalo Phil's, Baumhauer's Wings, Buffalo Wild Wings, Wing Zone, Church's.... Traveling through Tuscaloosa there is a chicken or chick finger joint every mile or so; until recently.
    The Zaxby's in Northport has unexpectedly closed it doors. This after the two other Zaxby's in Tuscaloosa suddenly closed there doors earlier this year. Signes in the windows of these stores read “Temporary closed.”
    The Tuscaloosa News even attempted to contact the Roosters in Zaxby's managment. "Calls to Zaxby’s headquarters in Athens, Ga., requesting comment were not returned. Zaxby’s also has removed the three Tuscaloosa County restaurants from its Web site."
    It looks like not even Super Bowl Legend Jerry Rice is going to be able to help the Greater Tuscaloosa Area Zaxby's.

This is the week!

   The Senate Rules committee has informed Free the Hops that they intend to get a vote on The Gourmet Beer Bill this week. When this week is still up in the air. This is due to the fact that the general fund budget passed by the House last week didn’t get transmitted to the Senate on Thursday should have been. "That has caused a bit of a procedural headache and thrown the previous plan the Senate leadership had for this week for a loop. So they’re still fine tuning what bills they are going to bring up and in what order."

   From FTH: ...barring disaster, they are determined to give us our shot this week. “Disaster” could be something like a surprise filibuster, such as the one we saw a few weeks ago when a few Senators filibustered in protest of how the special order calendars are handled. There are never any guarantees in politics.
